Silicon steel, also called electrical steel, is an iron-silicon alloy in which the element silicon is magnetic. The addition of silicon improves the soft magnetic properties of the steel and increases its resistivity, and it is mainly used as a magnetic material in motors, transformers, electrical appliances, and electrical instruments. Silicon steel is generally a low carbon steel with a carbon content of no more than 0.08% and a silicon content of between 0.5% and 4.5%. Silicon steel can be further divided into oriented silicon steel and non-oriented silicon steel, which can be subdivided into conventional oriented silicon steel (RGO) and high permeability oriented silicon steel (HGO). Silicon steel is known for its high permeability and low iron loss rate, which makes it highly favored for power industry uses, such as large and small motors, relays, solenoids, electrical motors, wind turbines, transformer cores, new energy electric vehicles, and generator equipment.
