Stainless steel is a type of steel produced by adding at least 10.5% chromium as the main alloying element, while the addition of nickel and molybdenum gives it better corrosion resistance for specific environments. Based on their microstructure or crystalline phase, stainless steels can be divided into four main groups: austenitic, ferritic, martensitic and duplex.
